OTTAWA – The area jobless numbers are in and they are down over a percent from a year ago. With over 55,000 new jobs added statewide according to numbers provided by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, area unemployment also decreased. Unemployment in Bureau, LaSalle and Putnam Counties decreased to 5.4%, down from 6.8% a year ago for non-farm jobs. The lowest unemployment in the state was found in Bloomington-Normal, with only 3.4% out of work.
