OTTAWA – A traffic stop for having only one operating headlight led to an Ottawa man’s arrest on drug charges Friday. Ottawa police say they pulled over a vehicle on Columbus Street shortly after 2 Friday morning and that they observed in plain view items indicative of criminal activity. A search of the vehicle turned up around 4 grams of suspected crack cocaine and about 5 grams of suspected heroin, police say. As a result, the State’s Attorney Office has charged 25 year old Andrew James Kaufman with Unlawful Possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (heroin), a class 1 felony, and a class 4 felony of unlawful possession of a controlled substance – cocaine.
Kaufman was taken to the LaSalle County Jail where bond was set at $500,000.
