MENDOTA – Three suburban Chicago residents were arrested after an early Saturday morning police pursuit. Mendota Police say they attempted to stop a speeding vehicle in the 200 block of Cherry Street around 3:20 in the morning. The vehicle didn’t stop and continued down E. 3rd Road, eventually crashing into a corn field about 3 miles south of Mendota. Police say 2 people ran from the vehicle, and once back up arrived from Mendota Police, LaSalle County Sheriff’s Department, Peru Police K9 unit, and State Police, 3 people were taken into custody. Later, Police say they recovered numerous stolen items from burglaries reported just days earlier.
The alleged driver, 21-year-old Edwin Omar Aponte, of Bensonville, faces 2 charges of possession of stolen property, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and several other traffic charges. A passenger in the vehicle, 21-year-old Dana M. Fritz, also on Bensonville, is charged with possession of stolen property, resisting obstructing a police officer, and permitting an unauthorized person to drive. A third person, 22-year-old Jaymz R. Ansari, is charged with possession of stolen property. All three were taken to the LaSalle County jail.
