Two Arrested for Ottawa Bank Robbery

CHICAGO – The US Department of Justice says two people have been arrested in connection with the robbery of an Ottawa bank. The FBI and U.S Attorneys say that 41-year-old James D. Williams, and 21-year-old Alexis T. Handelman, both of Bartlett, are charged with robbing the Old Second Bank in Ottawa on May 11th. The Department of Justice says, the pair was also charged with conspiracy to rob the Ottawa bank along with a Gurnee and Aurora bank later in May.
Leading up to the three bank robberies, The Department of Justice says Williams stone an AK-47 firearm and rented different vehicles. According to the indictment, on one occasion Williams later attached stolen license plates to a vehicle he recently rented.
If convicted, the defendants face a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison for each count. The arrests were made with the assistance of the Ottawa, Gurnee, Aurora and Palatine Police Departments, as well as the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.
