PERU – Four are in custody after an early morning armed robbery at a pharmacy in Peru. In a release Tuesday morning, Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei said that around 2 a.m. a 911 call was made reporting an alleged armed robbery at the Walgreens on Shooting Park Road in Peru. The caller indicated multiple individuals were involved and at least one handgun was displayed. The suspects reportedly fled in a vehicle that was seen traveling southbound on Route 251 by an Oglesby Police Officer. A high speed pursuit began with purported controlled substances being seen thrown out of the vehicle. The vehicle then proceeded to enter I-39 southbound and began traveling at a high rate of speed. Stop sticks were deployed by a LaSalle County Sheriff deputy and the vehicle was eventually stopped near Wenona in Marshall County. Four individuals were taken into custody with charges pending. The investigation continues by the agencies involved and the LaSalle County States Attorney’s Office.
