Good Samaritans Save A Woman from Drowning

DOWNERS GROVE – A Sandwich man was one of 12 good Samaritans who helped saved a womans life. According to Illinois State Police, On August 3rd, Joanna C. Girmscheid of Libertyville, was traveling westbound on I-90 when she lost control of her vehicle as she was exiting the Route 47 southbound ramp. Her vehicle overturned and became submerged upside down in a retention pond. A group of 12 Samaritans including, Frankie R. Gonzalez of Sandwich, were traveling on the roadway and took action. Some called 911 to report the incident as others entered the water, risking their own lives to save Girmscheid. The good Samaritans successfully pulled her unconscious body out of the water, performing CPR on Girmscheid and ultimately revived her before EMS arrived and transported her to Sherman Hospital.
