STREATOR – Streator Township High School will receive a grant to help support their truancy programs. The board motioned to approve $68,000 each year for three years for the Truants Alternative and Optional Education Program awarded by the Illinois Board of Education. According to Assistant Principal Nick Mcgurk, the grant will serve to support the already existing program at the high school.
The program serves students with attendance problems and or dropouts up to and including those who are 21-years of age and also provide truancy prevention and intervention services. Mcgurk reminded the board that nobody is perfect at that age, but going through the program could help students graduate with their class.
