PAW PAW – Paw Paw School Board members held a special meeting on Wednesday to answer questions about their decision to put deactivating Paw Paw High School and sending pupils to Indian Creek on the November ballot. The board answered questions given in a handout that concerned parents and residents had, including what could happen to sports co-op and class sharing if voters chose to vote down the proposal. Many parents were not happy about Paw Paw’s agreement to pay $10,000 dollars per student instead of $8,000 per student like initially discussed. According to Superintendent Stan Adcock, based on current enrollment projections, more students are expected to enroll next year, raising the cost of tuition per student. Concerns were raised on the cost of transportation to Indian Creek, as well as Mendota’s offer to take on Paw Paw students. Paw Paw resident Jared Nicholson called the board’s negotiation with Indian Creek weak, suggesting renegotiations or bringing back Paw Paw High School. Superintendent Stand Adcock refused to answer any questions regarding a Mendota merger, calling the topic “irrelevant” because of the pending decision still at hand with Indian Creek.
