City of Peru Reaches Lawsuit Settlement

PERU – The City of Peru reached a settlement for a lawsuit by a former Firefighter and Alderman at a city council meeting on Monday. Rodney Perez will receive over 97,000 dollars for lawsuit he filed against the city of Peru, Mayor Scott Harl, and Fire Chief Jeff King alleging retaliation and racial discrimination. Perez, a former firefighter, alleged he was routinely insulted for his Mexican heritage. Claims against Harl have been dismissed. King and Harl have agreed not to discuss the allegations in the lawsuit with any individuals. The settlement is to be paid by the City’s insurance carrier.
