Firearm Deer Season Starts Friday

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Deer Hunting season for muzzle loaders and firearms begins soon. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources reminds deer hunters to focus on safety, as firearm deer weekends are the state’s most popular hunting season. According to the IDNR’s Office of Law Enforcement, last year, 19 hunting incidents were reported during all seasons, with three involving fatalities. IDNR Safety Educators remind hunters using tree stand to use a Fall Arrest System safety harness. 10 of the 19 incidents reported last year, involved hunters falling from, or climbing in and out of elevating tree stands.
The seven day firearm season begins this Friday, November 16th through Sunday, November 18th. A second round of firearm deer hunting will be held from November 29th through December 2nd.
A limited number of Illinois firearm and muzzle loader deer permits are available -over-the-counter from DNR Direct license and permit vendors through Dec. 2, or until quotas are exhausted. in LaSalle County, businesses in Marseilles, Oglesby, Mendota and Ottawa have available licenses and permits.
