Passenger Dies in Grundy County Christmas Eve Crash

BRACEVILLE – One man has died and another man was arrested following a single vehicle crash Christmas Eve morning in Grundy County. According to Grundy County Coroner John W. Callahan the crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Illinois Route 53 near Braceville. A truck was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when for unknown reasons, it left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The passenger, identified as 32-year-old C.J. Loveland, was ejected and taken to the Morris Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle allegedly fled the scene. Grundy County Sheriff’s Deputies say they apprehended 36-year-old Jonathon Loveland 1/2 mile south of the crash scene on foot. Jonathon Loveland was charged with Obstructing a Peace Officer, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Aggravated DUI, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving a Fatality and taken to the Grundy County Jail. The investigation of the incident continues by members of the Sheriff’s Dept along with the Coroner’s office.
