Peru man faces multiple charges in hit and run accident

PERU – A Peru man was arrested on multiple charges after fleeing from a traffic stop by car and foot. On Monday just after 7:30 p.m. the Peru Police Department responded to reports of a hit and run at First and Fulton streets. According to Commander Sarah Raymond, when officers arrived they found damage to a street sign and pole, and found that the driver allegedly had fled. While officers began their investigation, they observed a car traveling west on Market street that they suspected was involved. Authorities say the vehicle attempted to flee, but came to a dead end on State street and crashed into the curb. Peru Police say 47-year-old Willie A. Molina allegedly ran from his vehicle, but was caught by an officer.   Molina sustained injuries during the arrest and was transfered to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. According to police the investigation revealed that the vehicle Molina was driving belonged to a resident of Peru and determined that there had been a residential burglary and the car was stolen. The investigation is ongoing and Molina was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a revoked driver’s license, fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving in the wrong lane and failure to give or aid information.
