ILLINOIS – A donation shortfall over the winter holidays is prompting the American Red Cross to issue an emergency call for blood donors, to prevent a blood shortage from continuing throughout winter. According to the Red Cross, they collected nearly 30,000 fewer blood and platelet donations the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s. Upcoming blood donations will be on Tuesday in Peru at the Illinois Valley Chapter Donation Center from noon to 5:30 p.m. and on Thursday in Oglesby at Illinois Valley Community College from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and in Streator at New Beginnings Baptist Church from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
