OTTAWA – The Food and Drug Administration held a hearing on Friday to address the spike in teen vaping, and discuss efforts in eliminating youth e-cigarette. In a recent study, sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, found the number of high school vapers increased by 1-point-3 million from 2017 to 2018. Now, OSF HealthCare in Ottawa is partnering with local schools in LaSalle County to spread the message. Principal Merritt Burns of Washington Middle School in Oglesby, says the response from kids has been extremely positive. After seeing an increase in vaping among students last year, Merritt says having an outside health agency send the message added more impact on the students.
