Warming centers in Peru

PERU – Warming centers have been established in Peru due to extreme frigid weather conditions expected. Illinois Valley Community Hospital is keeping its cafeteria open around the clock to serve as a warming center for people who need relief from the cold. Anyone who wants to warm up at IVCH can enter the hospital through its West Street entrance until 8:00 p.m. and then through the emergency department on the east side of IVCH after 8:00 p.m. While the Illinois Valley PADS in Peru does not serve as a warming center, Program Director Terry Reints says she will not turn away anybody who is seeking relief from the cold. The shelter is available 24 hours. City of Peru Mayor, Scott Harl says if warming centers overflow, city hall will be opened and staffed on a 24 hour basis to offer shelter.
