OTTAWA – An award from FEMA will pave the way for lower flood insurance premiums for Ottawa residents. Thursday the city was honored with a Class 2 Community Rating, which is the second highest nationwide. The National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System is how companies determine premium amounts. The award was presented to Mayor Robert Eschbach in Peoria. According to Mike Sutfin of the Ottawa Building and Zoning department, they’ve saved taxpayers nearly $10 million dollars.
