Conservation Police Investigate Stephenson County Deer Shooting

LENA – The Illinois Conservation Police and the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deer that was reportedly shot in a backyard during daylight hours in the community on Lena.  On Sunday, March 10th they were called to a home after a witness heard a gunshot and saw a deer walk a few steps then collapse.
But so far, after a lengthy investigation, no solid leads have surfaced.  Conservation Police Officer Steven Beltran is hoping someone with information is willing to come forward.
“Many of these deer walk through these communities and having someone shoot a rifle in town is very dangerous.  During the investigation there have been children playing in the same area the deer was shot.  It’s amazing that someone would be so reckless as to shoot a rifle and kill a deer in downtown Lena.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Lena Police Department or the Stephenson County Sheriff’s office.
