Flooding Closures at Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks -May 2nd, 2019 until further notice.

  • The lower parking lot and boat ramp at the west entrance to the park along Route 178-CLOSED
  •  The Red River trail leading from the Visitor Center out to French Canyon -CLOSED
  • Parkman’s Plain/LaSalle Canyon parking lot-CLOSED
  • Trail to French Canyon behind Lodge-CLOSED
  • Jacobs Ladder staircase on Red River trail  connecting to French Canyon by cove-CLOSED
  • Illinois Canyon-CLOSED
  • Ottawa and Kaskaskia Canyons-CLOSED
  • Matthiessen Dells Area, lower trails into canyons and falls-CLOSED
  • West Entrance to park off of Route 178-Will be closed this afternoon
  • Annual Wildflower Pilgrimage Special Event May 4th and 5th-CANCELLED

Park staff ask visitors to please use caution while hiking the open trails, and to dress appropriately for hiking on muddy trails in inclement weather and to use their best judgment.
Remains Open:  All other trails at the park as well as parking lots at the Starved Rock Lodge, Overflow parking lot off of route 71, St. Louis Canyon, and Hennepin Canyon parking lots.  The Starved Rock Lodge, Restaurant, State Park Visitor Center, Matthiessen State Park, and the Starved Rock State Park Campground all remain open.
