PERU – A new program called the, “City of Peru Good Neighbor Recognitions” honored community members who performed extraordinary deeds for their neighbors. At last night’s city council meeting, Art Giese, his wife Kay Giese and neighbor Joshua Phillips were honored for all assisting in the alert of a fire happening at the neighbors home on Wednesday of last week. While Kay called in the incident, Art and Joshua approached the burning home attempting to alert any people inside, and used a garden hose to try and put out the flames. they both provided critical information to detectives to aid in the investigation. A Bystander of Peoria who was in the area and gave description of his sighting of a suspicious person, will be awarded at a later date. The investigation concluded in the arrest of a man who is charged with a 1st class felony of residential arson.
