OGLESBY – Although wet weather and flooding impacted many areas of local state parks, it didn’t stop people from visiting this Spring. In fact, attendance is up at Starved Rock and Matthiessen from April to June, compared to last year. According to assistant site superintendent Linda Moore, Starved Rock State Park had just over 729,000 visitors this Spring. Thats over 40,000 more than last year. Moore says she’s surprised at the numbers, especially given the flooding of the lower parking lot, and closures of many trails. While Mathiessen’s numbers are up by over 5,000 visitors compared to last year, the park is still feeling the affects of Spring; with the lowers dells and the equestrian trail remaining closed.
