OGLESBY – Incoming Illinois Valley Community College agriculture student Miriam Hoffman of Earlville has been selected as this year’s FFA National Officer Candidate from Illinois, IVCC President Jerry Corcoran announced at Thursday’s board meeting.

Last year Hoffman served as state FFA secretary.

“This is an amazing accomplishment,” said IVCC ag program coordinator and instructor Willard Mott. “In my eyes, this makes Miriam the top FFA member in Illinois. Her commitment to FFA and agriculture education is top-notch.

“Last year she was selected by her peers to represent Illinois FFA as an officer and has now been selected by her peers and a selection committee composed of industry representatives, teachers, and other ag leaders to represent Illinois on the national stage. Each state can only send one and she is ours.”

When Hoffman informed Mott of her selection she said, “I am beyond humbled at the news and I plan to give my all to this opportunity.”

The 2018 Earlville High School valedictorian is the daughter of Winifred Hoffman and the late Kenneth Hoffman. Her sister Martha, a recent IVCC ag program student, is now at Northern Illinois University and plans to pursue a career in ag communications.
