SPRING VALLEY – Spring Valley’s City Council continued discussion on whether or not they should tax Walmart Distribution Center for it’s up and coming solar garden. In a committee meeting on Wednesday, City Attorney Jim Andreoni says based of his knowledge from the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency, the amount paid on solar energy is dependent on electrical usage. Adreoni suggested the city could tell Walmart to meter the solar farm and pay utility tax based upon usage. However some committee members don’t feel comfortable charging for someone to go green. According to Mayor Marini, the city’s property tax revenue will more than offset what they would lose in utility taxes.
Discussion ended with the agreement to get in contact with Illinois Power to inquire how much the city would lose out on.
