Calling all bikers: Canal Corridor Association debuts new bike station

LASALLE – Bicycle enthusiasts can explore around LaSalle with the new I&M Canal Bike Share Program. On Friday, the Canal Corridor Association hosted a ribbon cutting at the I & M Canal’s Visitor’s Center in Downtown LaSalle to celebrate the program. Corridor Association President Ana Koval says the bike station was partly funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Office of Tourism. The station features 5 bikes and you can rent one for $2.50 per hour, up to 24 hours. Koval says there’s already a need for more bikes, so the association has applied for more grant funding to double the size of the system. So far out of the 5 bike stations locally, there has been about 440 rides.
