
PERU – A Chicago area man is in custody after an attempted drug arrest led to a pursuit Wednesday. According to Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team were involved in an undercover controlled buy of purported heroin when the suspect allegedly fled in a vehicle, leaving Peru and traveling on I-80. Bureau County Sheriff’s Deputies were involved in the pursuit that was eventually terminated near Wyanet. The vehicle was later found abandoned and before 4 PM 34-year-old Michael D. Willis was located in a garage and taken into custody on a number of pending charges with bond yet to be set.
