Snowfall sets back harvesting

OTTAWA – A rare October snow that touched down in LaSalle County Wednesday morning is putting harvesting at a halt. Ideally during harvest time dry weather is needed to get heavy machinery across land, but with saturated fields there’s not much farmers can do.

Isermann says farmers are treating the snow as they would rain, counting on forecasts that say these conditions wont stick around for very long. At best, harvesting will pick back up again next week. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, on October 13th, 23% of corn and 27% of soybeans has been harvested.
