Elevated levels of lead in water found in Ottawa homes

By: Solaris Moon

OTTAWA – The city of Ottawa and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency detected some homes with elevated lead levels in their water. According to President Chris Perra of TEST Inc., during periodic testing in Ottawa, the water company found four homes out of 30 to have elevated levels of lead.

Residents are advised to run water for 15-30 seconds before drinking or use a filtration system. Perra says lead problems can be caused by old water lines or plumbing fixtures. Additional monitoring and sampling will be done.
