PERU – An early Thursday morning home fire heavily damaged a home in Peru. According to Peru Fire Chief Jeff King, they were called to the 1600 Block of 5th Street after a resident reported a fire in his kitchen. When responders arrived, they found fire coming out of the back of the dwelling, and after a brief attempt to fight the blaze inside the home, the decision was made for the safety of the firefighters to battle it from the outside. LaSalle, Oglesby, Spring Valley and Standard all assisted the Peru Fire Department and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
