Peru Police respond to self-inflicted stab wound at Mahoney Drive business


PERU – Early this afternoon, Peru Police Department responded to a business in the 5300 block of Mahoney Drive in Peru to investigate a reported attempted armed robbery and stabbing of a 50 year-old woman. The woman was transported by ambulance to Illinois Valley Community Hospital with a serious stab wound to the abdomen. Authorities later concluded that there was no attempted robbery or stabbing and that the woman suffered a self-inflicted stab wound, and is expected to survive. Police Chief Doug Bernabei issued a statement in which he explained that the Peru Police Department would not be making an arrest for false reporting, as they felt the physical health of the individual was the priority.
