Toxic chemical leak after traffic crash on I-80

MINOOKA – 100 gallons of a highly toxic chemical leaked after a single vehicle crash Thursday morning on I-80 in Minooka. According to the Illinois State Police, just after 7 a.m. a freightliner truck traveling westbound on I-80 near Minooka, in a reported construction zone, lost control during a lane change. The vehicle reportedly struck 200 feet of guardrail before overturning in the ditch. Police say the box trailer being pulled by the Freightliner contained triethyl phosphate in liquid form, a highly toxic and flammable chemical. On scene officials estimate approximately 100 gallons of the substance has leaked, prompting a traffic diversion to ensure safety.  Officials say the spill has been contained and there is no immediate threat to the public.
