LASALLE – The city of LaSalle is gearing up to collect potential marijuana sales tax. Per the recommendation of the Illinois Municipal League, on Monday night the city council updated their sales tax collection date from January 1st to July 1st. Lasalle Attorney James McPhedran says from a practical standpoint it will be very unlikely that anyone could go through the process to be located in LaSalle with permits and proceedings that have to take place to be effective before July 1st. However, he says it doesn’t make sense to not tax it until July when in certain locations they can start selling by January 1st. In September the city implemented a 3% sales tax.
