Illinois, the 11th state to legalize recreational marijuana

UNDATED –  Illinois will join 10 other states and the District of Columbia in allowing the purchase and use of recreational cannabis. The new law allows residents ages 21 and older to buy and possess up to 30 grams of cannabis or 5 grams of concentrate from a licensed dispensary. Medical marijuana cardholders will be allowed to grow up to five plants. According to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, medical dispensaries in 37 locations had been approved to sell recreational cannabis, including one in Ottawa. Verilife, located in the 4100 block of North Columbus Street will have special holiday hours, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
