AURORA – An alleged Aurora gang member faces up to 16 years in prison for shooting at police. According to the Kane County States Attorney’s Office, on Thursday 24-year-old Jorge L. Guzman agreed to a sentence of 16 years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for a guilty plea to two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm at a peace officer, a Class X felony. According to authorities, the charges are in connection to a May 2017 incident, where Guzman reportedly fired a handgun three times in the direction of police during an investigation. Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said the incident is another example of how gangs and guns create a violent atmosphere that endangers police officers and citizens.
