SPRINGFIELD – State law enforcement organizations are joining forces to oppose efforts of the General Assembly to end cash bail. According to officials, there has been a renewed push in the General Assembly to follow other states that have recently eliminated cash bail. According to Executive Director for the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, there’s concern that victims who had the courage to call the police will have to live in fear of offenders being set free and committing more crimes. The Coalition for Public Safety will speak on this and other criminal justice issues throughout this year’s legislative session.
