Milk options expanded for WIC

SPRINGFIELD – An adjustment to WIC rules will allow for more options for those enrolled in the program when they shop for milk at retailers. The USDA Food & Nutrition Service has approved some substitutions for participants through May 31, 2020. Illinois WIC participants who are prescribed whole milk should select the highest fat milk available, while those prescribed fat free or 1% milk should select the lowest fat milk available. Participants may substitute milk of any available fat content when their choice is not available, and should select package sizes that allow them to purchase as close to the maximum benefit amount allowed.
