Downstate Judge rules ‘Stay at Home’ in Illinois can’t be extended

LOUISVILLE, IL – Illinois State Representative Darren Bailey, a Republican from downstate Clay County, filed a suit alleging that the Illinois ‘stay at home’ order cannot be extended past April 9th.

Bailey claims the Governor overextended his power by issuing additional orders after his original disaster proclamation.  At the Clay County Courthouse Monday afternoon, surrounded by a crowd of supporters, the Representative entered with his legal team to make his case.

The decision by Clay County Circuit Court Judge Michael McCaney was announced during the Governor’s daily press briefing of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The case, filed only as Bailey vs Pritzker, likely means that the ruling will only apply to the plaintiff, and not the population of the state of Illinois.
Governor J.B. Pritzker weighed in on the ruling Monday afternoon.

““Frankly, it’s insulting, it’s dangerous. And people’s safety and health has now been put at risk… as a result of what Darren Bailey has done.”

The Pritzker administration pleaded with the public to abide by the advice of the Illinois Department of Public Health and that they would be filing appeals at once.
