OGLESBY- Illinois Valley Community College Monday  announced the hiring of consulting firm Rehmann to unlock its servers. Rehmann, headquartered in Michigan, completed IVCC’s security audit in 2018.

“Step number one is to secure and clear the environment to ensure it is safe to begin to unlock servers,” said IVCC President Jerry Corcoran.

Vice President for Business Services and Finance Cheryl Roelfsema said restoring the network – and completing a forensic audit to determine how Friday’s breach occurred – should be completed early next week, if not sooner.

Another firm, VDA, is working alongside Rehmann to conduct the forensics. IVCC IT Director Chris Dunlap is receiving updates every six hours from Rehmann.

Ferrilli Higher Education Technology Consultants will assist Ellucian in restoring Colleague, IVCC’s administrative software system. Roelfsema said IVCC will attempt to move Colleague to the cloud by July 1 to protect the network and prevent a lockdown from happening again.

Monday the college informed the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and FBI of the breach.

In an emergency meeting Saturday, IVCC’s board authorized administrators to secure a contract with an outside consultant to unlock servers and proceed with the forensic audit.

The problem was discovered early Friday when the email system and website were not functioning. A subsequent IT investigation revealed the network had been compromised and file servers locked by an outside entity

As of now, the college is unaware of any personally identifiable information having been disseminated.
