Dixon writes warden asking Crundwell’s release be denied

DIXON – The city of Dixon submitted a letter to the warden of a prison asking that a former city employee who pleaded guilty of embezzling nearly $54 million dollars remain behind bars. City Manager Danny Langloss said Wednesday that they are not concerned that Rita Crundwell would be released early from her over 19 year sentence, but she had petitioned to be let out due to fears of COVID-19.
“The damage she has done both financially and psychologically was and remains unprecedented. Early release of Rita Crundwell would destroy trust and confidence in our great judicial system, send a dangerous message to any public official considering theft, and re-ignite rage and anger that our Dixon community has worked so hard to overcome” Langloss stated.
