Visitors who park on the shoulder could be towed at Starved Rock this weekend

UTICA – The Illinois Conservation Police say they will begin enforcing parking restrictions and tow away cars at Starved Rock and other area state parks.

“Since Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks reopened last month, we’ve seen increased instances of illegal parking”  said Captain Laura Petreikis, of the Illinois Conservation Police.

Traffic has been backing up weekend mornings along Route 178 and even north to Interstate 80.   Visitors arriving after 11 AM may find the lots closed, and be tempted to park along the road and walk in, only now they risk having their vehicle towed at their own expense.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources suggests visiting many other great attractions in the area, including Buffalo Rock, Illini State Park, or Shabbona Lake State Park.
