OGLESBY – The Oglesby Fire Department was called to the Vermilion River twice Tuesday in separate incidents to rescue individuals stranded on the shore.   Around 5:30 PM a raft carrying three individuals flipped over in the WildCat Rapid.  Two were able to make it back into the raft but the third was forced to swim to shore.  That man was rescued after Oglesby Fire launched their boat into the river.  Later that evening after 11 PM Oglesby Fire was called again to deploy a boat on the Vermilion River for a fisherman who couldn’t find his way back in the dark along the shoreline.  According to Assistant Fire Chief Steve Maltas no injuries were reported in either incident.
