Semi lands in bean field after early Saturday crash near Mendota

MENDOTA- Residents living along I-39 early Saturday called 911 after hearing a loud crash in the pre-dawn hour.  Around 5 AM Mendota and Troy Grove Fire and EMS were called to the scene about one mile north of the US Route 34 interchange near Mendota, where they found the tractor-trailer off the roadway and in the adjacent soybean field.   The driver, a 35-year-old man from Rochester, Minnesota, was taken to an area hospital as a precaution.   No other injuries were reported and the crash is under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
