OTTAWA – A number of reported funnel clouds darted across North Central Illinois Monday afternoon, but were all harmless.  The cold air funnels were caused by the air aloft being colder than the air underneath the clouds.   The National Weather Service did issue a special weather statement for the event, which caused as many as six different funnel clouds to drop down on a path stretching from Spring Valley to Morris.
