SPRINGFIELD – Due to a backlog earlier in the week, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 5,368 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday. The department announced that a slowdown in data processing affected the reporting of tests, although the systems are back in working order. 29 confirmed deaths were also reported on Friday for a total of 8,143 since the start of the pandemic and 245,371 cases in total.
