OTTAWA – A fiery crash involving six vehicles killed two, including a LaSalle woman on Friday. The crash blocked the Westbound lanes on Interstate 80 for over four hours. Around 10 AM the Illinois State Police say a life flight helicopter was called in and traffic in both directions was stopped. The LaSalle County Coroner reported that a 47-year-old LaSalle woman and a 43-year-old Joliet man had perished. Authorities say a box truck carrying automotive batteries allegedly struck the rear of multiple vehicles who were slowed at a construction zone. Three others were hospitalized. The victims names have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
