Illinois has another day of COVID-19 cases near record

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois has had another day of near record setting new COVID-19 infections, approaching 7,000 positive test results on Sunday.  The Illinois Department of Public Health report 6,980 new cases and 35 additional deaths.  Statewide, 692 residents were hospitalized in the ICU with 284 on ventilators battling the disease.  The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for tests is at 9.4%.   The seven-day rolling average for test positivity in Region 2, which includes LaSalle, Bureau and Putnam County is at 9.3%, which means the area will have mitigation measures put into place Wednesday to try to reduce the spread of COVID-19.  The state has set a rate of 8% or below as a standard, which the region last met on October 26th.
