State Unemployment Higher Than National Average for December

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Employment Security released the latest workforce statistics, and the state is still trailing behind the national average. Seasonally adjusted unemployment for December of 2020 was at 7.6%, well above the 6.7% national average. This is a slight up-tick statewide from the 6.9% unemployment that was reported in Illinois for November. The Illinois economy has rebounded significantly from the April of 2020 pandemic induced unemployment rate of 17.2%, a record high.
