LaSalle County Board urges Pritzker to veto police reform bill


 
OTTAWA – The La Salle County Board unanimously approved a resolution urging Governor JB Pritzker to veto HB 3653. The controversial police reform bill would drastically change law enforcement as we know it and it’s now in the hands of Governor J.B. Pritzker to sign. The bill includes ending cash bail for non-violent offenders state-wide, requiring all police officers to wear body cameras by 2025, and allow officers to be punished or fired based on anonymous complaints from the public. The county board says they support many criminal just reform measures contained in the bill, however, they believe some of the measures will have significant negative impacts on the safety of residents in the county and the men and women of the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office.
