Anniversary of Pluto Discovery on this date in 1930

STREATOR – Today is the anniversary of the discovery of Pluto by a man born in Streator.  It was February 18th, 1930 photographic evidence of Pluto was discovered by Clyde W. Tombaugh at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. Tombaugh was born in Streator in 1906. Although he passed away in 1997 at the age of 90, he still got to explore the far reaches of space when a small portion of his ashes were placed aboard the New Horizons spacecraft and flew past Pluto in 2015.
