EPA resumes sampling and cleanup of LaSalle properties at Matthiessen & Hegeler Zinc Co. Superfund Site

LASALLE – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will resume sampling and cleanup of residential properties at the Matthiessen and Hegeler Zinc Co. Superfund site. According to the EPA, the agency changed contracting services which caused a delay in the cleanup. Soil sampling to determine which additional properties may require cleanup will be delayed until the end of the summer. Residents will begin to see EPA contraction setting up field equipment in the area. Property owners will be contacted where elevated levels of contamination are identified to discuss soil cleanup and landscaping restoration. If you are interested in getting your property sampled contact a U.S. EPA representative to require an access agreement.
