Two injured during Peru car theft; suspect in custody

PERU – Two people were injured in what police are describing as a vehicle hijacking on Saturday evening.   The Peru Police Department say they were called to 5200 block of Trompeter Road where a man allegedly drove off in a vehicle that was driven by a 17-year-old woman.   She was reportedly drug a short distance and suffered injuries to her foot and pelvis.   A bystander, a 61-year-old man was also injured.   The female victim was transported to a Peoria Hospital.   The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Darion Coleman of Gary, Indiana, allegedly abandoned the vehicle in Ladd before stealing another vehicle and traveling to Montgomery County, Illinois where he was taken into custody.  Charges are expected to be filed in LaSalle County against Coleman for a Class X Felony of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking.
