SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health is issuing updated guidance to help people celebrate more safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. They suggest that you delay travel until you are fully vaccinated or wait until you get a booster shot. If you are not vaccinated, the IDPH recommends getting tested 1-3 days before and 3-5 days after traveling. They also suggest traveling during off-peak times to avoid crowds or drive yourself instead of using public transportation.
“Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself, your friends and family, and your community, but there are other actions you can take to celebrate more safely” said IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike.
For those planning events, the IDPH suggests you keep indoor gatherings small and arrange seating to allow for physical distance. They also advise that you should avoid having people congregate in small spaces and to clean and sanitize areas often. Those who are sick with fever, cough, or other symptoms of COVID-19, or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, should stay home.
